May I announce that Thérèse Teevan will be leaving St Margaret’s at the end of February to begin work as a combined School Chaplain at Sion Manning Girls School and a youth worker at St Pius Xth Parish, St Charles Square.
This is very good news for Thérèse as her time here would have finished in June because the Parish is unable to continue to sustain the wages of a part-time catechetical worker. The Parish has benefitted in the past from such paid Catechetical co-ordinators, but in those days the Mass Count was between 500 and 600, now it is 412. Hence with the agreement of the Finance Committee the post has been abolished. I suggested to Thérèse at the beginning of the year to start looking for a new post for her own financial security and this has quickly emerged. It is right for her to accept the post and I am pleased she has found another posting so readily, even if it will cause some logistical problems here at St Margaret’s.
The Parish has greatly benefited from her ministry here and there are many parishioners who will be sad to see her leave. Thérèse has begun a number of initiatives whilst here and these will continue. Both the Confirmation and First Communion programmes will continue as normal thanks to the dedication of the catechists. The Youth Club will continue its monthly meetings and arrangements are being put in place for the Children’s Liturgy though this might take longer to organise.
As with every departure of a Parish worker there will be sadness but the new situation calls for a new response, and I am confident that this Parish will continue to provide sacramental programmes of high quality and opportunities for the young people.
